Damn, that wicked witch of the west knew good shoes!

When I got the invite to the exclusive Kurt Geiger evening saying I was a tad excited is a bit of an understatement. A girlie night wouldn't be complete without a round of cosmopolitans to kick of the night of being fabulous. We headed to Covent Garden and one of my favourite stores, the shoe chandelier is something I aspire to have in my house one day. Upon entering we were greeted by immaculately dressed and simply beautiful women who offered us a glass of bubbly before ushering us into the inner sanctum of shoe worshiping.

I wandered round lightly stroking some of the shoes and feeling my purse recoil inside my bag. Taking a break from the beautiful and absorbing shoes, I moved towards the Lash Perfect Lash Bar where some women were waiting to make us beautiful. Feeling a bit rebellious I thought I would let the lady choose the La La Lashes for me. They were full and luscious, brilliant for a night out (shame I wasn't due one). You can find the Lash Bar just off Carnaby Street and is £7.50 for some falsies.

Next I decided to try on some shoes and settled on some Dorothy would have been proud of and removed them before I got burnt. Very sexy non the less. Bob tried some Christmasy little numbers which really stole the show and I urged her to give in to the KG effect.

As the night wore on and the shoe glitter made the world seem a little shinier I felt it was a good time to trust the hair bar to have a go at my barnet. I sat with my glass of bubbly and enjoyed feeling like someone special. Every girl likes to feel like a princess once in a while and for those few moments I felt like a celeb getting ready for her fans :).

Two princess' moved into the cold, wintery night and headed home to their castle rather than a night on the town. I was fun while it lasted :)

Crayons...for grown ups!

I first stumbled upon TopShop's makeup range last summer. I had just moved to London fresh from university and I had bagged an internship at Look Magazine. Naturally, I expected everyone at Look towers to be polished, poised and perfect. A daunting prospect for little old me. So I headed to the shinny corner of TS Oxford Street ready to give my make up bag an overhaul and found the perfect eye accessory. The TopShop eye crayons.

This year these crayons come in two very different colours Equinox and Zephyr. I have splashed out on both for testing purposes obviously ;) They are £8.50 from TopShop

These are my new favourite eye shadows. They are perfect for block colour on your lids or they blend equally well for a smokey look.

Zephyr

This colour is something special. It glides on so smoothly and shines in all the right places. I use it for both the day and the night because it is so versatile and can be built up to suit your need.

Equinox

Again a super colour :)

The only downside is that they do crease after a while and need to be topped up to keep it perky.

All in all they are F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C. and totally brilliant for the on coming party season to add a bit of sparkle. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

Let me know what you think!

Flutter them his way

Anyone that knows me knows I change my mascara like I change socks. Without this precious black liquid I look about 14, rejected when buying a lotto ticket and I can't really leave the house without it.

Recently I was invited to a Bobbi Brown make over evening and thought I should go along and gain the advice of the immaculate Bobbets who suggest products to lighten here and smooth out there. These women could sell ice to Eskimos and I left after buying so much make up in colours I will probably never use. On the other hand I did feel I had found the holly grail of the mascara world. Bobbi's No Smudge mascara is fantastic. There is no other word for it. It's great if you want to make your eye lashes fluttery and natural, rather than thick and false. Although, it can be built up if a faker look is what you want. It also does what it says on the tube, its no smudge and stays put all day....I know what you're thinking "BRILLIANT, grab my purse I'm off to House of Fraser". But hold on, there are some downsides. As fantastic as the product is its seriously difficult to remove with wipes or liquids and often I just had to leave it on, which wasn't good for the lashes. But I did find that Clinique's Take The Day Off Cleanser works a treat at getting it off. The other problem is the price. For me the size of the tube doesn't match the hefty price tag and it runs out pretty quickly. (No Smudge, £18, Clinique, £14.50)

All in all if you have money to burn then this mascara is totally fantastic and I would totally recommend it if like me your mascara smudges all the time.

This brings me onto the slightly cheaper and yet equally brilliant MAC Studio Fix mascara. I am usually not a fan of MAC's mascaras, I find they smudge and is perfect for those who love the panda look. But I like mine to stay on my lashes and not my face. It's also pretty good at making your lashes look thicker and gives a slightly more false appearance, good for nights out. It is also really good for shorter lashes and those who don't have many lashes to coat. For extra vavavoom use the MAC eye lash curlers before applying you're mascara. (Mascara, £13.50, Curler, £13.00).

Have you lovelies stumbled upon any great mascaras? I would love to know.

Do good things come in little dotty packages!?

When I heard about GlossyBox I thought it was quite possibly the greatest invention ever to grace the world of beauty and wondered why no one had thought of it sooner. I wanted to smooch those clever people at Glossy HQ. For £10 a month GlossyBox sends you 5 high end products for you to test and review in the comfort of your own living room, perfect for people who want to find their next beauty secret. I excitedly subscribed on their pretty website and sat back to wait for my box of goodies.

Then while I was at work on a cold, rainy Tuesday afternoon I got an excited text from my housemate telling me to hurry home and watsaping me a teasing photo of the box sitting on my kitchen table!

I was like a child about to meet Santa for the first time. We sat crowded around this little box and hurriedly opened it. Inside was the most beautifully wrapped box I have ever seen. The people at GlossyBox must be pros at Christmas wrapping and I am sure they are employed by Santa’s elves.

After opening it and digging thought the tissue paper I felt a slight wave of disappointment.

So why the disappointment?

Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner-MorayWell, for a start there was only the one make up product, the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Moray. I do sing high praises for this little beauty though. It was a nice colour and it went on really easily. The only down side was that although it is waterproof it had left a brown smudge ring under my eyes by the end of the day. In saying that though it is a brilliant product, I LOVE it and I would highly recommend it to all you beauties (£13.00, Harvey Nichols).

Sex Kitten
Next I tried out the Leighton Denny Expert Nails in Sex Kitten. It was a nice full size product but in a colour I wouldn't normally wear. Non the less I wouldn't be a good lab rat if I didn't try it. I would recommend applying a clear base coat so that the colour doesn’t stain your nails. The poor circulation look isn’t in at the moment. The varnish was easy to apply but needed more than the recommended 2 coats and I found it chipped pretty quickly. I think adding a top coat next time would keep it chip free. The colour has really grown on me though and now I have painted myfingers and toes :D (£11.00, John Lewis).

Fracas, Visa and Calypso de Robert Piguet

Next, the Robert Piguet fragrance testers. There isn’t a whole lot I can say about these. Firstly, I am not a fan of marketing fragrance in this way. Mainly because most people like different fragrances and I prefer to use one I know I like. So what can I say about them….they smell like the sort of fragrance your’e nan may buy you for christmas because she liked it. Im sure some people will love these smells but just not for me. (£65, Harrods).

Lastly, there were the Dermalogica products and the "free” pouch, which basically took over the box. I have heard great things about this brand so I thought I should give them a test. First I tried the Age Smart-MultiVitamin Thermafoliant when I had washed it off my face did feel cleaner and tighter and I went to bed a quite happy. The next day I was pretty shocked to see that I had the worst case of spots and pimples I have had since I was into the Spice Girls. I have quite oily skin so it is possible that this product caused a slight reaction. I didn’t try the other Power Recovery Masque because of this. Perhaps it would be good for dryer skin types. This is nothing against this brand as I have tried their range for oily skin and thought it was brilliant. I do think that the Renewal Lip Complex and the small bag were a waste of space because no one uses the bags and I have about a million stuffed in a box. (£40.50, £33.50, £22.50, www.dermalogica.com).

Dermalogica AGE Smart – MultiVitamin ThermafoliantDermalogica AGE Smart – MultiVitamin Power Recovery MasqueDermalogica AGE Smart – Renewal Lip ComplexAll in all I was a little let down by my first Glossy Box even though it is a little bit sexy, but just because you have a bad first date doesn't mean you should give up on them. I will keep you posted. For now,Pixie out xoxo

Britans Next Top Model 2011

Having not watched the show I wasn't much of an expert when it came to this years BNTM. But as it was a friends birthday it seemed like it would be a nice girly day out and an excuse to look at pretty things. Weirdly, the show was held in the same building as a comic book conference and what ensued was the strangest day out most of us had had. It was like a clash of the fashionista's and their arch enemy....nerds. I have to give it to them they went all out on their costumes with some of the ladies not wearing much at all (don't think I ever read that comic) and others feeling they had made an effort by wearing just some cat ears.

This made up much of my day. Spotting the oddest looking person and spending an hour waiting for a cash machine. The fashion show wasn't half bad either. I greatly enjoyed the half naked, oiled men that wiggled and jigged down the cat walk. But not so much so when they continuously jirated and hip thrust at the audience there are only so many shirt lifting moments one can have before it becomes embarrassing. It didn't help that I couldn't see the models either nor did I know who they were. But if the aim of the show was to make every average woman and girl in the room feel totally inadequate then they did a brilliant job.

These are my fabulous friends all looking amazing. As always I am the awkward one on the end right.

On the plus side I did get some lovely make up at a bargain price and I got to see the lovely Amy Childs looking glamorous in the not so private VIP area.

Worth £16.00, I'm not so sure....

Coming up: GlossyBox review

Tuesday, 1 November 2011

A little hello :)

So perhaps I should start my blog with some little points about me and about why I am starting this blog.

1. I am ridiculously  pale skinned, or as my mother calls it the 'english rose' look. Because of this I am constantly battling with my make up. Foundations are either TOWIE orange or Casper white. I usually go for the second option and often get mistaken for a goth. I am on the hunt for the perfect foundation!

2. I have fine flat hair that I can't do anything with unless I add copious amounts of cement hold hair spray. Note: this is not a good look, results in birds nest doo.

3. Mascara is the bain of my life. I am yet to encounter a decently priced one that add vavavoom without smudging and adding to my goth look.

4. I love all things lux but I love a nice bargain even more.

By now I am sure you have a pretty odd image of a woman who just looks crap......

The reason I have started this blog is because I am the average woman. I am not a model with sexy hair, full lips and air brushed skin. I represent everyone that wants to be a princess but who isn't quite there yet and is digging for beauty treasure instead of the mythical prince frog. I will do my best to do the digging and become your lab rat.

Wish me luck.
