MAC Lipstick in Pink Nouveau Review

MAC Lipstick in Pink Nouveau Review
MAC Lipstick in Pink Nouveau Review

So continuing my MAC Pink Series, next up we have Pink Nouveau. Another one of my all time favs. This is a subtle pretty pink that looks great with blue eyes and can easily be worn during the day. Un-like Please Me, there is slightly more pink pigment and a shine with this shade it is more noticeable but without being Barbie-like.

I think this is a super cute shade and one I wear a lot, it lifts the tone of my skin and balances out any blue I may have.

Do you love this shade as much as me?

MAC Lipstick in Candy Yum-Yum Review

First in my MAC Pink Lipstick Series is Candy Yum-Yum. This is a brave shade to pull off and one that isn't for the faint hearted, the photo above is the colour with no editing and using natural light only. As you can see it is highly pigmented with a slight sheen and is a shock of neon pink.

I love this for a big night out and team it with a subtle smokey eye so ultimate drama. It's certainly attention grabbing!!

What do you think?

Best Drugstore Lip Product | Boujour Rouge Edition Velvet Review in Peach Club

Boujour Rouge Edition Velvet in Peach Club

Sometimes we fancy a change. Perhaps we are done with the drying, cakey lipstick era or past the sickly sweet lipgloss' brands are pedalling to the adult market. Perhaps it is time to combine the two into the ultimate weapon in our beauty armoury. That's right, this year is the rise of the liquid lipstick a product that promises to deliver the pigment of a lipstick with a texture of a gloss, that sets matte! Oh you had me a the alteration, say no more!

One such product is the Boujour Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipsticks which are being hailed as a dupe for the pricey YSL Kiss & Blush Lip & Cheek Stain's. When it comes to splashing my cash I like to feel I am getting some bang for my buck; the product should reflect the price. So when I saw that the Boujour Rouge Edition Velvet's were £8.99 against the YSL £27 I snapped up a few shades in my local Boots drugstore, this one is Peach Club.

What they say
The Boujour Rouge Edition Velvet's soft, melting texture glides on to the lips and turns into a matt, velvety and incredibly light colour. Lips are left smooth and soft as velvet.
Enriched with evanescent oils, it’s incredibly sensuous formula provides a soft, second-skin feel, without drying or fading lips.

What I say

First off, I haven't loved a product as much as this since my love affair with the Clinique CC Cream. The Boujour Rouge Edition Velvet's little tubes of liquid colour are the best things since banana and peanut butter. The texture is liquid and when applied feels very soft and as the name states, like velvet. A little colour goes a long way and the colour pay off is amazing. Once you apply the liquid it sets matte and there is not stickiness like most lip glosses. I love a matte lipstick and once it was on there was no transfer after eating and drinking.

If you are looking for something new to add some sun to your winter blues' then I highly recommend you pick one of these up. There are 8 shades in the collection and I am dashing out to buy them all! They are often on a Boots 3 for 2 or buy one get one half price deal as well!

Have you tried a liquid lipstick? What other brands should I try?

Autumn Inspired | Bourjois Berry Lips #GiveItAGoDaily

Autumn Inspired | Bourjois Berry Lips #GiveItAGoDaily

I have just about given in to Autumn by buying a blanket cape, having fallen in love with the Burberry blanket back on the Autumn/Winter 14 catwalk. But being a bit of a beauty junkie I wanted to take some autumn inspiration for my make up. Gone are bright spring lips and nude eyes, I have replaced with smudged smoked khol liner and burst berry lips. Think Prada and Jonathan Saunders!

“Berry lips are set to become this autumn’s statement look. Be brave and try out this look by experimenting with a range of berry colours – go for a deep matte berry shade or opt for a brighter berry colour!” - Vanesa Guallar, Make-up Artist

This can be created quite easily and by using your favourite drug store brands. In this look I am using Bourjois products that you can pick up in your local Boots. I am so sorry some of the pictures are blury, my camera refused to focus on my face and not the sofa!

Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java*
Autumn Inspired | Bourjois Berry Lips #GiveItAGoDailyI started by using a small amount of Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer* to blot out the lips. It smells amazing and fruity, with extracts such as rasberries. It also has quite a matte texture and I imagine it would last well if applied on the skin. This helps create a canvas on which I can draw my lips onto. Great if like me you have a thin lip, I used a lip liner to make them look a little fuller on top

Once I had lined my lips I applied the Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Violine Strass* straight from the bullet onto my lips. I didn't need to use a lip brush because the lipstick had a pretty sharp outer line so it was soft and easy to apply. I liked this lipstick because it almost acted like a stain and even after a few hours of wear and the lipstick was in need of a quick top up, there was still a lovely berry stain to them. I also found it was quite glossy and even though I am more of a fan of matte textures, I could see myself wearing this on a night out.

On the Prada catwalk the model's lips were almost two toned but blown out at the edges. I decided to use the Bourjois Shine Edition Lipstick in Famous Fuscia* just on the central inner section of my bottom lip. It gives a plumping effect which I think looks quite pretty! If you want to recreate the blow out effect use a cotton bud to smudge the concealer back onto the lips, inwards, bluring the lines. You could add a tiny bit of concealer onto the cotton bud to help the process along.

Lastly, a product that I am loving at the moment is the Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java*, yeah I have no idea what this means either! It is a fine powder that has a slight iridescent shimmer that can be dusted lightly over the face. It smells amazing, almost like I imagine a powdery boudoir to smell! But because I love matte lips, I patted some onto my lips using my finger to give a matte effect and add staying power! It also has a slight lavender sheen that looked really pretty over the lipstick.

What do you think of this look for Autumn/Winter?

Bardo Pink Lips | MAC Matte Lipstick in Please Me Review

Bardo Pink Lips | MAC Matte Lipstick in Please Me Review
Now those of you who have followed me for a while will know I love a good bright lip like Joan Collins Timeless Beauty in Evelyn or even a lovely blue toned nude such as Tom Ford Indian Rose (You can win this shade here). But recently I have found a new go to lipstick that is less Barbie and so much more more Bridget Bardo chic.

During a little shopping trip to Macey's in the Big Apple of New York I was tired and fed up having not purchased a single thing that day. I had waited patiently for friends outside dressing rooms nodding and ooing at various discounted dresses and shoes but finding nothing I wanted to splash some cash on. I began to get a little desperate, anxious that I wanted something new and sweating at the thought of not having a single shopping bag in my hand, so I made a break for it and almost tripped down the escalator to the beauty hall. My fix, my heaven! I spent the next hour swatching various lipsticks and letting the shop assistants tell me how much it suited my pale skin. At the MAC counter it was busy I was left to look at the products alone, something I much prefer to do.

I settled for a couple of lipsticks and felt the anxiety of failure to shop ebbing away, I had my fix! MAC Matte Lipstick in Please Me has fast become my go to pink for day time.

Bardo Pink Lips | MAC Matte Lipstick in Please Me Review Swatch

First I line my stupidly thin lips with a nude lip liner, By lining the lips I can make them look a bit fuller and ensure a sharp edge for the lipstick. The colour is really matte which means it doesn't sink into the cracks or bleed and it lasts much longer. I like to team it with pink flushed cheeks and a winged eye liner, Bardo style!

What do you think of this look? What are your favourite MAC shades?

Pixi Picks Is Up To New Tricks! TOM FORD GIVEAWAY

People call me the problem child; I’m either moaning about my flat hair, lumpy stomach or spotty skin or spending a small fortune on products that promise to change my world and make me look like Kendal Jenner. When I started my blog I didn’t really know what I was doing or what to expect. It was just a place for me to occasionally rant or rave about some products I had been trying. I have learnt so much from the world of blogging, met some inspirational people and gained more confidence than I thought possible.

At the beginning I didn't want my face out there for the world to comment on. But as my confidence has grown taking a 'selfie' with friends, beauty products and the occasional animal has shaped me for the better. Thank you for all the lovely comments you leave on my posts they really mean the world!

After a couple of years of not giving my little project the love it deserves I have given it a little overhaul with the help of Baggle Design. So my lovely, wonderful people out there! Pixi Picks has a new look, isn’t it swish?!

To celebrate I have decided to do a little give away. Fancy adding a little bit of Tom Ford worth £40 to your make up bag?

Well here is your chance!

Tom Ford Indian Rose is my go to nude lipstick. There is just something super lux about adding a swipe of a Tom F over your lips; it just finishes an outfit perfectly. It is also the ideal companion for a smokey eye! The packaging is beautiful with an art deco feel to it, would you expect anything else from Mr Ford? Being my favourite shade, I wanted to share it with one lucky winner.

All you have to do is make sure you are following me on Bloglovin and my social channels (I am lonely!) and Tweet about the giveaway! Simples…..! Oh also, it is open internationally for the readers across the pond -YAY!

MAC it mine!! MAC Lipstick Haul

I suffer from a hereditary issue that has affected almost every woman in my blood line, not as dramatic as it sounds but we suffer from having no top lip. *GASP* This means that I often attempt a duck pout to give the illusion my lips are se-metrical, however for those of you who are Facebook friends you will realise this is something I now constantly do, for this I am sorry. I am currently having a go a drawing in a top lip, it's so much harder than it sounds. But even though I suffer, I am a lipstick addict. Splurging stupid money to feed my habit.

So, I was given the most amazing MAC lipstick, I loved it so much that after two wears I lost it on a girls night out and can't for the life of me remember the name. I am truly gutted! But armed with a photo of me wearing the shade I was hoping that one of the MAC artists would be able to help.

Unfortunately, even with this photo I wasn't able to find my beloved shade. So I settled for the closest the MAC artist suggested, which is still really stunning! In fact I went lipstick mad and left with another beautiful nude shade.

These photos really do not portray the true colours of the lipsticks but I have tried my best!

My replacement lipstick is an Amplified Creme Lipstick in Girl About Town. A lovely fuchsia
pink with a blue undertone. This lipstick leaves a lovely sheen to your lips and gives a lasting colour. I would recommend using a lip liner for a crisp edge, I use Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Crushed Berry.
Girl About Town (taken from MAC website)
The second lipstick I picked up is Satin Lipstick in Pink Nouveau. A subtle, dusky pink. This is a lot more matte than Girl About Town, but it still has a little shine and is really beautiful.

Call Me Coral: Chanel Rouge Allure

With Spring teasing us with a glimpse of sunshine through chilly winds, I thought it was time to bring out a suitable lipstick to cheer me up.

Chanel have a varied range of lip colour's to fit your mood or accentuate an outfit. Team it with subtle eye makeup for daytime glam. Going to a makeup counter in your local store can often be overwhelming with so much on offer and such a hefty price tag, a Chanel is not to be taken on lightly.

Rouge Allure in La Favourite
Rouge Allure Velvet in La Favourite is a gorgeous coral colour with a matte like finish. It has a lovely creamy texture that doesn't sink in to lip lines, but does have to be reapplied throughout the day.

Chanel Rouge Allure

If you are looking to treat yourself and a Chanel purse is a long way off, then a Chanel lipstick is the next best thing.

You can buy them at a cosmetic counter in House of Frazer for a hefty £25.00.

Stay beautiful,

Xoxo

Take a leaf out of Cleo's book and be the queen of seduction!

Today's post was requested by a special friend of mine who is still searching for her Mr Right. Maybe this festive holiday will bring the gift she deserves. So in saying that this is her guide for the perfect date make up with a few chosen ingredients.

First we must consider the environment of said date. If it is a flirtatious lunch or in fact any situation that involves day light then it is best not to go too vampy. The come to bed, smokey eye is not a look to rock and you may end up looking like a cheap hooker searching for her next punter. So my advice is to go flirty and girly.

So once you have created your base face with a trusted foundation, try adding a thin line of black liner to your top lid, perhaps add a cat flick to the ends if you are feeling cheeky. I like to add a bit of liner to the top inside lid as this helps to give the illusion of full lashes. The best liner I have tested is Bobbi Brown's Long Wear Gel Liner (£16.50, House of Fraser) which comes in a little pot and lasts all day. I'm also a massive fan of fake eyelashes, you can't really go wrong with them. For a subtle day time look I recommend Girls With Attitude, Double Take False Lashes (£5.00, Girls With Attitude Online). These are fuller than the usual false eyelash but they look amazingly natural. I even used Emma Lashes for my graduation :). The easiest way to apply them is using tweezers and looking down in a mirror. Finish the look off with some statement lips, this will draw his eyes to them and hopefully he will want to kiss them ;). I like Topshop's Brighton Rock for its girly, soft pinks (£8.00, Topshop Online/Instore).

glamour to go false eyelashesIf you are going on a night date where there will be loads of other girls then a different approach is needed. You want to make sure his eyes are firmly glued to you and that they do not wander off. Take a leaf out of Cleopatera's papyrus book little black book of makeup. Charcoal may not be the tool of choice today but she knew a thing or two about the drama of the smoky eye. Again, not me suggesting you ladies buy some coal and rub it on your face. Instead opt for a soft eye crayon. The Topshop Eye Crayon in Equinox, which I recommended in a previous review is great for this look.  This allows you to blend into the sockets using a brush or your trusty finger. This gives a softer, sexier look and it makes your eyes smoulder. Perfect for the woman of mystery look. Don't panic if you're not a make up maestro. Most of us aren't but these little recommendations are what I personally use and if a fat fingered girl like me can do it so can you. Start buy drawing a thick line above your lashes from the inside corner to the outside. Next in the outside corner draw a small < sign following the contor of your socket bone. Once you are satisfied you look pretty stupid, buff the liner across the rest of your lid with the brush or finger. This should give the illusion of wider eyes because the inside corners should be lighter than the outside. Apply some thicker, but natural lashes to finish the look. Girls With Attitude- Glamour To Go Party Animal Lashes 002 are perfect (£5.00, Girls With Attitude Online) .  If you want to get Ito the festive season then dust Barry M Fine Glitter Dust in Black Gold (£4.59, Boots) over the eye for added sparkle. It's best to keep lip colour subtle so that your eyes are the focus point on the face.

Let me know what you think!

Stay beautiful,
Pixie out xoxo
